DYNAMIC MECHANICAL ANALYSIS DEVICE (DMA)
Brand: PERKIN ELMER
Model: DMA 8000
DMA is a powerful technique for the characterization of viscoelastic properties of polymers. DMA works by applying a vibratory force to the material and the displacement in the sample is measured. From this, hardness can be determined and tan δ calculated. Tan δ is the ratio of the lost component to the stored component. Tan δ is plotted according to temperature and the glass transition is observed as a peak. It is possible to determine the damping (energy loss) properties of the material by measuring the phase shift in displacement according to the applied force while the material is deformed under mechanical stress.
